Eligibility: To determine if you are eligible for this sport you must read the  NEW Eligibility Rules.

Rules: Firearms, air guns and shooting apparel must meet the requirements noted in the USA Shooting International Shooting Rules.

Regional Tryout Format:  Applicants must attend a Regional Tryout competition.

Regional Team:
For the Rifle & Pistol events, each Region will bring the first and second place Regional Tryout finishers in each event to the finals, with the exception of the Air Rifle and Men's Air Pistol events as outlined below*.  
For Skeet & Trap events, each Region will bring the top two Scholastic qualified shooters from each event (Skeet and Trap).  Open Skeet & Trap shooters are responsible for their own lodging, meals and transportation for the Finals.

Note: Finalists who elect to accepted Games' provided campus housing are required to check and store their firearms, airguns and ammunition at a shooting range designated by the State Chairperson. Firearms, airguns and ammunition are not permitted on campus and stored items must remain at the shooting range until the competitor checks out of the residence hall. Firearms, airguns and ammunition transported on ESG regional buses must be in individually locked cases/boxes with tags identifying the owner's name, address, phone number and Games Region.

Three Position Rifle: Open Men & Women // Scholastic Men &Women
Free Rifle Prone: Open Men & Women // Scholastic Men
Free Pistol: Open Men & Women
Rapid Fire Pistol: Open Men & Women
Women's Standard Pistol: Open Women
Women's Air Pistol: Open Women
 
Air Rifle & Men's Air Pistol Events
Qualifying:  *Competitors for the Air Rifle and Men's Air Pistol events will be determined from a Regional Shoot-off Match from the pool of competitors who have already qualified for the Games in their respective rimfire rifle or pistol event(s):
*Air Rifle: Open Men &Women // Scholastic Men & Women
*Air Pistol: Open Men
 
Skeet & Trap  Events (Shotgun)
Qualifying:  In order to qualify for participation in the Empire State Games applicants must shoot 200 targets in two separate events. Prelims do not count as an event. Either 100 targets of a 200- target event may be used as a qualifier.
Scholastic Skeet & Trap:  Four shooters per region will qualify for the Finals, and will be provided with transportation and housing with the Regional team.
Open Skeet & Trap shooters are responsible for their own lodging, meals and transportation.
