Note: The Ice Hockey selection process for Boys differs from the selection process for Girls. Unless indicated in the Regional Tryout Schedules, there is no entry deadline for Girls, as there is for Boys.
For Boys:
NEW FOR 2008!!!: Applicants who wish
to tryout for Ice Hockey must be at least 13 years of
age and no older than 17 years of age as of April 30,
2008.
NOTE: For the 2009
Empire State Games, the 17 years of age as
of date will be August
31, 2009.
For Girls:
NEW FOR 2008!!!: Applicants who wish to tryout
for Ice Hockey must be at least 13 years of age as of
April 30, 2008 and no older than 17 years of
age as of August 31, 2008.
Residency: Athletes who attend school
in states other than New York (i.e. preparatory schools) but whose parents or
guardians are legal permanent residents of New York State are eligible for the
Games.
Athletes who attend school in New York State but are not permanent residents
of the state are not eligible for the Games.

Note: Athletes must provide their own equipment, including approved helmets, mouth guards, pants, pads sticks and skates.
Boy's general information:
Age Requirement: Applicants who wish to
tryout for Boy's Ice Hockey must be at least 13 years
of age and no older than 17 years of age as of April 30, 2008.
For the 2009 Empire State
Games, the 17 years of age as of date will
be August 31, 2009.
Residency Requirement: In addition to the age requirement noted above, boys trying out for Ice Hockey must be residents of New York State as of December 31, 2007.
Regional Tryouts: Tryouts for Boy's Ice
Hockey in the Empire State Games are by invitation only. Players will be scouted
during the school hockey season. Boy's
entry forms must be postmarked
by December 31, 2007 to be guaranteed a scout
visit.
Applicants may submit an entry
form after the postmark date of December 31, 2007, however there is no guarantee
that they will be evaluated by a scout. After the school/club hockey season
ends, 60 skaters plus goalies will be invited to an on-ice tryout in their respective
regions. From this tryout a team of 18 skaters plus two goalies will be selected
to represent their region at the Games, to be held in Binghamton, NY, July 23
- 27, 2008. There is no entry fee or charge for ice time.
Players may contact their
Regional Director
to determine if the invitations to the ESG tryout have been made.

Girl's general information:
Age Requirement: Applicants who wish to tryout for Girl's Ice Hockey must be at least 13 years of age as of April 30, 2008 and no older than 17 years of age as of August 31, 2008.
Regional Tryout Format: For girls, there is no entry deadline unless one is indicated in the Regional Tryout Schedule. Skills, drills and scrimmage situations will be evaluated by committee at an open tryout to be held in the spring. Applicants must check the ‘Tryouts’ page of the Games website to determine the date of the Girls regional Ice Hockey tryouts, register online (link below), and participate at the tryout. From this tryout a team of 18 skaters plus two goalies will be selected to represent their region at the finals of the Games.

Regional Team: Each region will bring eighteen players and two goalies to the finals.
