Open Division - Men & Women

Eligibility: To determine if you are eligible for this sport you must read the  NEW Eligibility Rules
Bowlers must have amateur status as per USBC rules. All finalists must be USBC Certified.  Past or current members of a professional bowlers group are not eligible. 
Any bowler in any one of the following categories is not considered to be an amateur bowler, and therefore is not eligible: individuals who earn a major portion of their income as an exhibition bowler; individuals who identify themselves as professional bowlers; individuals subsidized by a bowling sponsor, manufacturer, or any other agency so that they may devote their primary attention to the practice and participation of bowling; individuals who devote half or more of their work time as paid bowling instructors.

Rules: USBC Rules to govern event.  Competition will be scratch (no handicap). USBC rules not specifically listed here will be in effect during all events.

Regional Tryout Format:  Bowlers will compete in a Regional Bowling Tournament as follows:  Competition will be scratch (no handicap).  The first day of competition will consist of six games; the field will then be cut to a maximum of 16 men and 16 women who will bowl an additional four games.  If the field of men and women is less than 32 men and 32 women, then 50% of the respective field will advance (with a minimum of six men and six women advancing).  If there is an odd number, round up.  Pinfall will be carried over from the first six games.  The field will then be cut to the top six men and the top six women based on a ten game total who will compete on the second day in a round robin match play (total pins carried and 30 pins bonus for winning match) with a position round.  The top 3 men and top 3 women will form the regional team and advance to the Games Finals.  Refer to the tryout schedule for dates, sites and a contact person in your region, or contact the NYSBPA at nysbpa@aol.com or 518 464-1176, or contact your Regional Director.

Entry Fee: There is a $25.00 entry fee to cover the cost of bowling fees for those who attend the regional competition (Regional Trial).  This is a USBC certified event, the only cost is for bowling, and there are no award or prize fees involved.  The entry fee is payable upon registration. 
Refund Policy:  Refunds of the entry fee will be available for those unable to attend the regional competition if a refund request is made prior to the first posted regional competition date for your Region.  The refund request must be sent to:  ESG Bowling Refund, 1 Empire State Plaza, Albany, NY  12238, with a postmark date prior to the first posted bowling regional competition date for your region, or via fax to 518-474-7944 prior to the first posted bowling regional competition date for your region.  The written request must include your name & address, your ESG region, and the last 4 digits of the credit card which was used to complete the registration.  A credit will be posted to the credit card within 40 days of the request.  If payment is made by check, a refund check will be mailed.

Number of entries are limited:  Each region will have a limit as to the number of entries accepted for participation in the Regional competition.  This limit is determined by the number of lanes available at the Regional competition site.  Online pre-registration is recommended and will close 48 hours before the listed regional tryout competition date/time.  After that time only 'walk-up' entries will be accepted up to 30 minutes before the start of the regional tryout competition, if the entry limit has not been met on the day of the tryout.

Regional Team: Each region will bring the top 3 male and top 3 female bowlers from the Regional Tournament to the Finals. 

Events:  Finalists will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Mixed Doubles, Trios, Team, and All Events. Four games will be bowled per event.
