2008 Empire State Games
Masters Swimming
Eligibility: All swimmers must be
19 years of age or older by July 25, 2008. As this is a
short course meters competition, eligibility of a competitor for a particular
age group shall be determined by their age as of December 31, 2008. Your
current personal best times must be listed when you register.
All swimmers should have previously & successfully competed in the events
entered. For more specific details read the
Masters Eligibility Rules.
Fee: $25.00 for first event $5.00 for each additional event.
Competition Format: The competition
will be run according to the United States Masters swimming rules as listed
in the 2008 USMS rule book. Swimmers are limited to 5 events per day. The
no-re-call rule is in effect. If a swimmer false starts, the race will continue
and the swimmer may be disqualified when they finish. Men and women will
swim together and be seeded slowest to fastest (except for the 1500
& 800 Freestyles and 400 IM which will be seeded fastest to slowest).
It is each swimmer's responsibility to be behind the starting blocks prior
to his or her heat.
NO DIVING DURING WARMUP AND COOL DOWN except in designated
sprint lanes.
USMS RULE 102.4.2 (feet-first entry in a cautious & controlled
manner) WILL BE ENFORCED, violation may lead to
disqualification from all events.
Sanction: The Empire State Games is open to any NYS resident, non-USMS members may compete. This event will be RECOGNIZED by USMS and as such any USMS Swimmer who participates may use their times for National Records and Top Ten consideration. USMS Swimmers who wish to take advantage of this must bring a copy of their 2008 USMS membership card with them to the meet.

This pool has eight lanes and is 25 meters long.

Recommended Standards: We ask that
all swimmers be able to meet the recommended standards.
Note for Swimmers aged 70 and older: There
are no recommended standards, however we do request that you have successfully
competed the events entered.
Note for All Competitors: If swimming the
1500 Free, you must be able to finish the event in less than 45 minutes.
For the 800 Free, you must be able to finish the event in less than 28 minutes.
