EMPIRE STATE GAMES
MASTERS DIVISION
The
Empire State Games Masters Division has been Suspended for 2009.
For more information please read our agency's
press
release.
The Masters Division of the Empire State Games is a program conducted
for New York State residents consisting of 12 sports for men and women.
Athletes compete against others in 5 year age brackets (or other age
groupings as established for some sports) for gold, silver and bronze
medals. Each sport has its own minimum age requirement.
Participants must be residents of New York State as of April 30.
The sports conducted in the Masters Division of the Empire State Games
are: Archery, Bowling, Cycling, Diving, Fencing, Golf, Gymnastics, Marathon
Canoe, Pentathlon, Racewalks, Rugby, Swimming, Track & Field, Volleyball
and the 10K Road Race. Visit the
Masters
Sports page to view each sport's qualifying information.
The 'Qualifying Standards' used in the past for many sports has been eliminated.
Instead, many sports will use 'Recommended Standards' to assist athletes
in determining whether they are able to participate competitively at the
Games.
The Masters Division events are conducted in conjunction with the Empire
State Games Open/Scholastic Division program and those that enter the Games
as a Masters athlete may not compete in the Open/Scholastic Division.
All Masters Division sports in the Games carry a basic entry surcharge,
and participants must provide their own transportation, lodging and meals.
